I’m back with more hair tips and tricks for you! In my previous post, I shared the secrets to a great short haircut. Now, it’s time to learn how to style your fine short hair and add some much-needed volume. Plus, I have a bonus video to show you how to achieve “Day 2 Hair” effortlessly.
Styling on Day One:
Remove Buildup
Let’s start with day one, which we’ll call Sunday. On this day, I like to use Beautiful Nutrition Lemon Rinse to remove any buildup in my hair. This product is especially effective for fine hair that tends to get weighed down. After washing and conditioning your hair, simply apply the buildup remover to ensure a clean and fresh start.
Before Blow Drying
To fight frizz and create the necessary texture for volume, apply a small amount of MoraccanOil Smoothing lotion all over your hair. Then, spray Amika Bombshell Blowout Spray onto the roots. This combination will give your hair the lift and fullness it needs. When blow drying, focus on drying the hair from beneath to add extra volume.
Straighten and Add Volume
After blow drying, touch up your hair with a straightening iron to smooth out any imperfections. Remember, the goal is not stick-straight hair. To add even more volume, use Keune Volumizing Powder on areas that need a little boost. Apply a small amount to the crown of your head, just over your left ear, and the top right of your head. Be careful not to use too much, as it can make your hair feel gritty. Finish off by spraying more Amika Blowout Spray on the ends of your hair for a piecey look.
And that’s it for day one! This styling routine takes about 15-20 minutes, including drying time. If you prefer, you can also use hairspray at this stage, although I personally only use it when I curl my hair.
Styling on Day Two:
Here’s a little secret: short hair almost always looks better when it’s a little bit dirty. So, it’s time to break the habit of washing your hair every day! I know some of you may worry about oily hair, but trust me, your body will adjust if you give it a chance.
Find the Right Dry Shampoo for You
Start by finding the right dry shampoo for your hair. There are many brands and formulas available, so it may take some trial and error. Currently, I’m using Oribe Gold Lust from a recent Birchbox, but other brands like R&CO, Amika, and Klorane are also great options.
The Day Two Routine
On day two, simply spray dry shampoo all over your head, focusing on the roots. Allow it to dry for a minute or so. Then, use your fingers to restyle your hair. Don’t worry if it’s not perfectly straight anymore – a little bit of texture can be a good thing. If you prefer, you can straighten it again, but I usually embrace the natural look. Lastly, apply more Keune Volumizing Powder as needed to add extra volume.
That’s all there is to it for day two! If you want to see how to style short hair with waves, check out my video tutorial.
